HOTEL INGLATERRA

A hotel for kings

In 1857, after the demolition of the old convent Casa Grande de San Francisco, located in the Plaza Nueva opposite the Town Hall, the Fonda Inglaterra was born, becoming a true palace of Seville’s hotel industry and the best hotel in Seville on an international level. Local newspapers reported that, “We are delighted that, at last, Seville will have a lodging establishment worthy of its status as the third capital of the kingdom”.

This establishment has witnessed more than 160 years of Seville’s history and has been an important institution, both as a catering college and as a destination for many well-known personalities.

As the most prestigious establishment in Seville at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, we were visited by such illustrious figures of the time as King Alfonso XIII (1915), Queen Elizabeth of Belgium (1921), the Prince of Wales (1927), Hans Christian Andersen (1862), Danish writer and author of “The Ugly Duckling”, and the Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi (1863), among others.

Hotel Inglaterra, in the present day

“La Fonda”, as it was once known, has now become Hotel Inglaterra, which celebrated its 160th anniversary in 2017, a milestone that makes us the oldest hotel in the city and one of the oldest in Spain.

Since we opened our doors to the public in 1857, we have always striven to cater to the times, adapting to customer demand and making it our business to do things the right way. This has led us to undergo several refurbishments that have placed us among the best hotels in Seville, maintaining the national and international prestige that we have enjoyed throughout more than a century and a half of history.

In 2007, to mark our 150th anniversary, the Spanish Government awarded Hotel Inglaterra, for the second time, “The Spanish Tourist Merit Plaque” in recognition of our more than a century and a half of history in the hotel industry in Seville.
